U.S. Junior Men’s Team Tops Pool F in Poland

Team USA concluded pool play at the 2016 World Junior Men’s Team Championship by winning Pool F with victories over Malaysia and Spain Saturday at Enjoy Squash in Bielso-Biala, Poland.

The sixth-seeded U.S. took on seventh-seeded Malaysia first on Saturday morning. U.S. junior champion Andrew Douglas opened the match against recently-crowned individual world champion Eain Yow Ng, and pushed the top seed to five games, 11-6, 6-11, 8-11, 14-12, 8-11 in forty-nine minutes.

Spencer Lovejoy then leveled the match at 1-1, with a four-game victory against Ong Sai Hung in the No. 2 spot. Sam Scherl sealed Team USA’s second pool play victory with a three-game victory at the No. 3 spot against Farez Mohd Izwan.

The final pool play match against nineteenth-seeded Spain saw a different lineup with Douglas resting and Gabriel Morgan slotting in at the No. 3 spot.

Lovejoy, Scherl and Morgan all clinically sealed the pool F victory with three, three-game victories against Spain Saturday afternoon.

With the pool F victory, the U.S. advances to the 1-12 playoffs where they face twelfth-seeded Jordan on Sunday. Team USA’s match against Jordan is streaming live Sunday at 6pm local time, 12pm ET, on the World Juniors live stream.
